WE DON’T ADORE

Here at The Providore, we’ve always taken pride in being a company that shares the food we adore with our community. Part of that commitment entails using ingredients that we ourselves trust – organic produce, artisanal small-scale makers, and sustainable food sources.

Over the years, we have also seen a growing need to be more mindful about the resources we are using, the carbon we are creating and the waste that we are producing. As such, together with you, our community, we have decided to take concrete steps on our sustainability journey.

Whilst these are just small actions that might appear to be a drop in the ocean, we believe that every step counts towards building a better future for all. Read on and join us on this journey!

OUR SUSTAINABILITY PILLARS

THE PROVIDORE FOREST

Together with reforestation technology start-up Green Steps Group, we are helping to re-populate the forests of Borneo and Sumatra in areas that have been affected by reforestation. Each tree that is planted removes an annual average of 22kg in carbon emissions. To put things into perspective, we would need to plant about 2000 trees to make one of our outlets carbon neutral for life.

Our goal is to be able to plant as many trees as we can, and to eventually reach carbon neutrality. In order to do that, we will need your support.

HOW IT WORKS?

1. While dining at The Providore, you can opt to adopt a tree for $6

2. Alternatively, you can also adopt one via our online shop with the link below

3. You can view your adopted tree’s progress with a unique QR code that contains information about your tree’s location, date and time of planting and the farmer who will be helping to look after your tree.

As your tree grows and flourishes, you too, can see how your contribution has a positive and far-reaching ripple effect that continuously gives our planet a fighting chance towards recovery.

NORDAQ PREMIUM FILTERED WATER

Did you know that bottled still or sparkling water has a major negative impact on our environment? From its production process, to unnecessary, lengthy transportation (aka more carbon emissions) and waste management matters, there is a lot of energy that goes into that bottle that arrives at your dining table.

In order to reduce the single-use glass going to landfill, as well as the carbon emissions that are involved in transporting bottles of water, we have partnered with Nordaq, a premium water filtration system that allows us to provide clean, filtered still or sparkling water straight at our outlets.

Our reusable glass bottles mean reduced wastage. With this change, we are saving 20,000 bottles from going into the landfill and 7.3 tonnes of carbon from going into the atmosphere each year.

What’s more, half of all proceeds for Nordaq water within our outlets will go towards funding the planting of trees in our Providore Forest. So by getting a bottle of premium, free-flow, still or sparkling tap water, you are helping us to both reduce waste, and offset our carbon emissions.

ETHICAL MENU CHOICES

We pride ourselves on sourcing premium ingredients from ethical and sustainable sources, and many of the ingredients on our menus are organic, sustainable or ethically farmed.

We use sustainably farmed or fished seafood, free-range chickens, ethically-farmed eggs and grass-fed beef on our menus.

In addition, we make a conscious effort to support those looking to reduce their meat consumption. Up to 60% of the menu dishes are vegetarian, or can be made vegetarian on request. Plant-based alternatives and vegan options are provided where possible.

The wines featured on our wine list are 100% biodynamic, certified organic or organically farmed. Many are made with minimal-intervention winemaking practices, or are natural wines, which use less sulfites, animal products or commercial additives during the winemaking process.

We are always keen on advocating sustainability or finding new ways to be more sustainable ourselves. If you have a brilliant collaboration idea in mind, please go to our contact page to get in touch. We’d love to hear from you!
